Weights
Barbells are for loading a pattern and adding a little over time. You do not need a twelve-exercise split. You need a squat, a hinge, a press, and a pull, practiced often enough that the weights move up without wrecking you.
The lifts
A simple template is squat or lunge, deadlift or Romanian deadlift, bench or overhead press, and a row or pull-up. Those four cover the body. Accessories — curls, back extensions, carries — only earn a place after the main work is done.
Progressive overload
Write down what you lifted. Next time, add a little: another rep, a small plate, or a cleaner set. If last week was ugly, repeat the weight until it looks easy. Strength is built on weeks of boring wins, not one heroic session.
How often
Three full-body days a week works for most people. Leave one or two reps in the tank on working sets. Sleep and food do as much as the bar. Kettlebells and barbells can share a week: swings and get-ups on some days, squats and presses on others. They do not cancel each other out if you recover.
What we are not doing
No pose-for-the-mirror programming. No chasing failure every set. The goal is a body that can train next month and next year — stronger, tighter, still useful outside the gym.
